At least 24 people have been killed and more than 70 injured in a suicide bomb attack on a train carrying Pakistani soldiers and their families in the Quetta area of Pakistan’s Balochistan province.

According to local authorities, a large explosion occurred when a vehicle packed with explosives was hit by a train. The explosion reportedly caused some of the train’s carriages to derail and even caught fire.

International media outlets reported that the Baloch rebel group Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) had claimed responsibility for the attack. The group claimed to have carried out a “fidayeen”-style attack targeting a train carrying soldiers.

Following the incident, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack and said that the perpetrators would be brought to justice. In recent years, there have been frequent attacks on railways, security forces, and government structures in the Balochistan region.
